Integrate With Amplitude

Integrate With Amplitude

The Chisel-Amplitude integration is a straightforward process that brings Amplitude’s collaborative analytics to the Idea Box. This allows you to track visitor behavior on your website and make data-driven product decisions.

This integration allows you to:

  1. Get a comprehensive view of how certain features perform with the qualitative and quantitative data you derive from Amplitude.
  2. Give your users the best product experience by understanding their behavioral data alongside their submitted feedback.
  3. Filter the data with the user segments in Idea Box to understand users better

Install the Amplitude Integration

Steps to follow in Chisel

By following the steps below, you can begin the Amplitude integration by obtaining the Chisel access token.

  1. Go to Integrations and under All Integrations, click on Connect next to Amplitude
  1. Copy the Access token for your workspace.

Steps to follow in Amplitude

  1. Go to Data
  2. Scroll down and under Connections Overview, you will see Destinations
  1. Click on Add Destination, and you’ll be brought to the Catalog screen
  2. Here, search for Chisel and click on it.
  1. A modal, as shown below, will open up. Modify the name of the integration, and paste the Chisel’s access token here that you’ve copied to the clipboard at this step.
  1. The last step is to match the Amplitude key with Chisel’s. It means selecting user properties that are similar in Chisel and Amplitude. Select User ID under the User ID Mapping. You can choose the Emails or the External Chisel IDs to do the mapping.

You’ve completed the Amplitude setup!

Please note that after the integration is completed, any changes made in either Chisel or Amplitude won’t be reflected. Only the manual setup of the cohorts you decide to sync will reflect the change.

Choose the Cohorts

The feedback you receive in Chisel’s Idea Box will be categorized based on Amplitude’s cohorts when you apply a filter stating the same.

We recommend syncing the user attribute and user behavioral cohorts to Chisel.

Determining which cohorts you want to sync is the first step before syncing the cohorts to Chisel.

We are providing a few sample cohorts for your reference.

Cohort Examples

Example A: User Attribute Cohort

Role of the UserThis is the user’s permissions set, such as admin and user
The Job TitleTheir designated role in the organization, such as Managers, Sales, etc.
Time spent on the Platform For this, use the created_at property, such as the new user and experienced user. For trials, you may also create a cohort titled ‘Trial User’

Example B: User Behavioural Cohort

The Onboarding Status of the UsersThis will come in handy when assessing the feedback based on the users’ onboarding status. To do so, you may create a cohort for every stage of the onboarding funnel.
The Power Users This is used to categorize feedback coming from the most engaged users.
The Disengaged UsersThis is used to categorize feedback coming from disengaged users and accordingly assess their behavior.
The Churned UsersThis is to assess the behaviour of disengaged users who were previously engaged.
The North Star Users This is to review the feedback provided by your North Star contributors.
Engagement on Features Suppose you want to improve certain features, then make cohorts that specify those users who’ve engaged with that particular feature.

Sync the Cohorts

After creating the cohorts, you need to sync them.

  1. Go to the Cohorts page
  1. Here, select the cohort you want to export to Chisel
  1. View the details of the cohort. Click on the Target Users button at the top right corner of the workspace.
  1. After opening that tab, select Chisel to sync the cohort.
  1. Define the Destination of the cohort. Select an API target, which is the name of the Chisel workspace.
  1. Next, define the cadence, that is, the frequency of the sync.

After completing the sync setup, you can start using the cohort in Chisel in the next 30 minutes.

Resync the One-time syncs

If you’ve selected the automated syncs, the resync of the cohort will take place on an hourly or daily basis.

However, the one-time syncs won’t happen unless you resync them in your Amplitude space using the steps below.

  1. Click on any one-time synced cohort
  2. Go to Syncs
  1. Click on the Destination ribbon
  2. A side panel opens
  3. Click on Sync
  1. Then click on Sync Now

Using the Ampitude Cohorts in Chisel

After setting up the integration, you’re all set t ki o use the Amplitude cohorts in Chisel. For that purpose, you’ll need to open the Idea Box.

To analyze the feedback submitted by a particular cohort, you’ll need to filter the data in Idea Box >User Segment >Select the Cohorts

Amplitude User IDs are mapped as Organization User in Chisel.
